The Great Rann Of Kutch is famous for its White Salty Desert Sand and is the largest salt desert in the World. It is an extension of Thar Desert in the Kutch district of Gujarat.
“Rann Utsav” is a 3 month long festival hosted every year by the Government Of Gujarat from December to February, near Dhordo village in the great white sand desert. Festival occurs in winters as tourists can see the various sights of the Rann that he/she cannot see in the scorching heat of summers.
During Rann Utsav, Government Of Gujarat facilitates accommodation called Tent city with 400 tents for tourists. And it also facilitates cultural programmes such as BSF Camel Show, adventure activities like hot-air ballooning, many stalls selling handicrafts, food, etc. Cultural programmes like folk dance and music are performed by local people with a bonfire under the moonlight in tent city.
Rann Utsav gives visitors not only a chance to experience a full moon on the salt desert but also get an experience of local culture, cuisine, and hospitality. Nearby villages are visited by tourists, specially built local houses are also used to house tourists to give them a taste of local traditions.
