“ Tumhe jo maine dekha , tumhe jo maine jaana , jo hosh tha voh toh gaya!!! “
“ aaltu jalaaltu , aayi bala ko taal tu , tension vension bhul ke baccha , hoja fully faltu !! “
These are a few scenarios which students tend to create in their mind when they are on their threshold of entering their college life. The 18 year olds are now with a big dollop of adrenal rush now are gearing up for new phase of life. A phase which would actually help them carve out a new personality of their own. The mistakes they would make would help them have a life learning , the skills they would gain will help them grow higher in their career.
Therefore , its important to have a clear idea as to what all the students should expect from this new phase of life. Some may expect days filled with fun and frolic , some may expect to have excessive pressure, so actually a diverse range of expectations hang over their minds. Lets clear out some of the fog over these ideas .
What the 18-year-old expects !!!
- Glittery Moments :-
The newly admissions actually tend to believe that they would have a college life filled with glam where each person you meet are actually very warm and welcoming. Every one is a friend is the biggest wrong notion students tend to have.
- Cool people to hangout with :-
Now this reminds me of a very popular meme, “ we all expect to have friends like the movie Dil chahta hai , but we end up with friends like hera pheri “ I guess all the college graduades resonates with this meme… because this is the one like explanation of the “ cool friends “ which we expect in the college.
- Cute Boys
Now this is the age old delimaa of my beloved girls , we tend to imagine to have cute yet mannerful boys with whom we can flirt , but all we end up is with boys just like them , that is , nervous , weird and shy at first. Well this might sound as a very superficial description for a boy but the irony is , the adrenal rush in girls makes them create such a picture only.
- Absolutely amazing college life !!!!
We all have our own beautiful picture of our college life where there is no worries or tension just fun , laughter and giggles which fills our college days. The 18 year olds tend to define college life in their minds as one shown in the bollywood.
What the 18-year-old should be expecting !!!!
- Holistic Curriculum:-
The newly admissions should be looking forward to have a holistic curriculum which caters to their all kinds of developments like education , emotional as well as extra co-curriculum activities. They should come forward and study the curriculum and indulge in the activities which helps them hon their various skills.
- Making Memorable Moments :-
The 18 year olds should not forget this that its their new phase of their life, so they should try and make memorable moments which would linger with them forever. Now making memorable moments would not be necessary to be having go to a trip or do big things , small gestures of happy moments actually adds up to the list of memorable moments in college.
- Meet New People :-
College would actually open doors to meeting new people , so its actually time to try and shed away your introvert shield and meet more people. I know its a moment of bewilderment for the introverts to shed away their shield of shyness but one needs to try and work upon it , baby steps each day would also work. And for the extroverts , they need to have their moment of meeting and exploring but also they need to be a bit choosy as to whom to be friends with.
- Explore or learn new skills :-
College is actually the best time when one can learn new skills and grow. It is so because we tend to be at that phase when we are in thirst of gaining more knowledge , so if we try to learn a new skill then this will be an added feather to their cap. Also , it is not necessary that we learn new skill only , if one explores and atleast knows what all skills are good for him or her actually that would also be helpful in the long run.
Reality Of This Dream !!!
- Learn some life lessons :-
College life actually offers some of the life lessons which we learn the hard way. This may sound very philosophical but this is actually the reality. It teaches us many things which we actually tend to not learn otherwise. So its a roller coaster ride of learning.
- Almost Always On A Tight Budget !!!!
Now this a a hardcore reality that maximum of the students are actually running on a tight budget wherein they are making the ends meet so that they can have fun and also mind their budget because its obviously limited as they are still dependent. Now there are obviously some smart exceptions who manage to have good control and tend to save or earn while they are graduating.
- Constant Career Anxiety
Now however negative it may sound but its actually true that along with having learnings the students tend to have career anxiety at a constant pace as to what next. Its the human tendency we donot live in the present we always look for what to achieve next after reaching one milestone , similar is the case in this , we tend to always keep a thought in our mind running as to what next in line in the career graph. Whether it is the right decision or not …many such ideas keep lingering in our minds.
- Exam Pressure Gets Normal Eventually
Yesss !!! exams will not terrorise you anymore. College gives us the learning that its absolutely normal to study one day before exam. Now one may say that so was the case when we were in school, but the beauty here lies is that in college we have so much more to cater to that exam pressure is the last thing we can think of. And we tend to perform better when our mind is absolutely free of the pressure.
