The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about a new era of technological advancement, but it has also sparked a debate about the role of AI in content creation. One of the most prominent examples is the development of ChatGPT, an AI model that can generate human-like text.
I started my journey in the content industry as a writer some 7 years ago. Career progression happened quickly and in 2020, I started working as an editor. In 2022, we editors were asked to check the articles coming our way with AI detection tools. Many articles started getting flagged. Some were rightfully so, but many were incorrectly tagged.
The reason was that the current AI tools used neuro-linguistic programming. ChatGPT and other AI models have the potential to revolutionize the way content is created. They can generate high-quality text quickly and efficiently, allowing for faster and more cost-effective content production.
This can be especially useful for businesses and organizations that need to produce large amounts of content regularly. But, can it replace human writers? As a writer and an editor, I can safely state that generative and predictive AI tools cannot replace human intelligence.
While AI models like ChatGPT can generate text, they cannot match the creativity, originality, and emotional intelligence of human writers. Content creation is not just about putting words on a page; it involves understanding the audience, crafting a compelling narrative, and evoking emotions through language. It also involves editing and rewriting sections to suit the narrative and the theme of the topic.
AI is a tool that relies on machine learning and deep learning. The more data you feed it, the better results it will yield. But, the quality of the data also plays a vital factor here.
Consider the two prompts below:Write a 200-word article on “How to buy the best shoes.”Write a 200-word article on “How to buy the best shoes.” the article should be informative, written in American English, and the target audience is women looking for sensible yet stylish shoes. If you see, the phrasing of the prompt completely changes the narrative. From a generic article, it became a copy targeting a specific audience. You can further polish it by adding specific keywords and even some of your catchphrases. You can even add more pointers and give examples from movies to help get the point across in a better and more fun manner.
The war between content writers and AI is not a zero-sum game. Both human writers and AI models have their strengths and weaknesses, and they can complement each other to produce high-quality content. Instead of viewing AI as a threat, content writers can embrace it as a tool to help them work more efficiently and effectively.
Writers need to polish their skills and techniques to make AI their magic wand and create content that can be magical.
