Art of Time Management

I must govern the clock, not be governed by it.

Golda Meir

Time management is not just a way of living but it’s a very precious skill which is possessed by a few people. Those who are able to manage time are able to accomplish all their goals with efficiency and with minimal stress. Time management is all about doing more in less time. Managing time can be difficult as well as challenging for most people. It also works differently for different people. So following a rigid and copied time schedule is not going to work for anyone, a person needs to make their very own unique time table to manage their time effectively. What works for a person may not work for another. However there are some common tips which may come handy when someone makes their time table.

We need to keep following things in mind while planning our day-

Setting specific and measurable goals and ticking them at the end of the day. This will give a sense of accomplishment and will keep a person motivated all the time.

Prioritize tasks into most and least important and also how urgent they are. Tasks which are most important and also urgent should be accomplished first.

Assigning a time limit to each task will help in getting tasks done in time with some time to spare. Making a small effort to decide on how much time to allot on each task can help recognize potential problems before they arise. So that plans can be made for dealing with them.

Taking proper and sufficient breaks between tasks helps to keep the mind calm and also increases efficiency. Consider going for a short walk, power nap or meditating.

Take a review at the end of each day and carry forward the tasks left to the next day. Always plan for the next day at the end of the present day.

Try to wake up early and sleep early. Waking up early actually gives a time bonus to the extent of 3 to 4 hours. This way every day rush and hassle can be avoided.

We should try to do one task at a time. Multi-tasking often leads to poor work quality and increase in pressure and stress. Always remember being busy is not the same as being effective. We need to stop spending time and start investing time. Investing our limited time in productive work can help us grow in the long term and will help us to achieve success in a short duration of time. It is very important to allocate some time of the day to yourself in order to think and analyze your mind and be with yourself. This helps to keep the mind relaxed, calm and helps in maintaining peace.

Time is not money, in fact, time is more precious than money. Once gone it cannot be re-claimed or earned. So we need to be very cautious while spending our time. Time can be your best friend as well as your worst enemy, it’s up to you how you treat it.
